Trackin’ Trucks: Layne Riggs Wins at The Milwaukee Mile
Layne Riggs earned his first career Craftsman Truck Series victory on Sunday afternoon at the Milwaukee Mile Speedway.
Riggs took the lead on Lap 123 of 175 and held it to the checkered flag, 1.547 seconds over Ty Majeski.
“I don’t even know how to describe it.” Riggs said, “It’s awesome.”
“We’ve had a terrible year. It’s been an awful year, but I’ve learned so much though in my rookie season. After the start, I thought there’s no way we’re going to get a win, we’ll do the best we can and just learn for next year. But I knew in practice this thing [today] was awesome.”
It was a weekend filled with second-generation NASCAR drivers. Riggs, son of former NASCAR driver Scott Riggs, joins Harrison Burton (son of NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee Jeff Burton) as weekend winners. Burton won Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, leading the lone final lap.
Riggs’ win was emotional and super celebratory, so much so that he briefly dislocated his shoulder as he pumped his arms in the air while standing on top of his No. 38 Ford.
“Dislocated my shoulder I was celebrating so hard, but it was worth it.”
Eight playoff drivers finished second through 10th place, respectively. Majeski led 45 laps before bringing his No. 98 Ford home in second. Christian Eckes led a race-high 71 laps before finishing third, while Nick Sanchez and Taylor Gray rounded out the top-five finishers.
Tyler Ankrum finished sixth, Corey Heim seventh, while Daniel Dye and Ben Rhodes finished in eighth place and ninth place, respectively. Matt Crafton, the first non-playoff driver outside of Riggs, rounded out the top-10 finishers.
Two additional playoff drivers finished outside the top 10. Grant Enfinger finished in the 13th position after earning Stage 2 playoff points. Rajah Caruth finished 18th. The driver of the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevy started at the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments.
A Look Ahead (Into the Playoffs)
