Robby Gordon has been placed on indefinite probation by NASCAR after an incident in the Sprint Cup garage area Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. NASCAR said Saturday that Gordon was involved in a confrontation following Friday's qualifying session. Sprint Cup Series spokesman Kerry Tharp said NASCAR became aware of the incident Friday evening.

According to published reports, the confrontation involved Kevin Conway, the 2010 Sprint Cup Raybestos Rookie of the Year. SceneDaily.com reported Conway filed a police report about the incident.

Conway competed in seven Sprint Cup races last year for Gordon, and the two are embroiled in lawsuits with one another.

Gordon is allowed to compete in Sunday's Kobalt Tools 400 Sprint Cup race. He will start 38th in the No. 7 Speed Energy Dodge.

Conway is driving the No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Chevrolet for Joe Nemechek in Saturday's Nationwide race. He is not on probation.

According to SceneDaily.com, NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton said an announcement will come Tuesday regarding the length of Gordon's probation.
